Nicario Jimenez creates pieces called Retablos from a mixture of boiled potato and gypsum powder. For his sculpting process, Nicario's only tool is a small piece of wood resembling an enlarged toothpick.
This retablo is called the flower market.
This is the typical market stand where flowers are sold for the traditional fiestas of the Andes including Carnival, the Feast of the Waters and the Feast of the Cross. However, behind all this, the flowers were always detailed to give or adorn any special circumstance; and, behind this sector there is a whole chain that generates thousands of jobs that support many producers, especially family farming.
In South America, there is a rich diversity of flowers and the climates allow them to grow and manage many more species. This activity is a generating source of labor and, in its entirety, is part of family farming. Almost all members of the family participate in this activity, as they are all committed to each of the stages of growing, harvesting and distributing the flowers.
All Nicario's works include a personal signature in the back of them.
